App Adds Support for Wireless Control of 9170/9180 Series Power Supplies

YORBA LINDA, CA – Jan 28, 2014 – B&K Precision today has relaunched its iOS application, ‘pwrApp’, for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Adding to the app's value-offering of local wireless control for XLN-GL series power supplies, B&K Precision’s pwrApp now adds support for 9170/9180 series power supplies with LAN interface cards.

Features of the app include improved stability, an updated GUI with interactive power supply control, export of monitored data via AirPrint or email in a CSV file, and multi-channel control of dual channel models, 9173 and 9174.

B&K’s pwrApp continues to offer all previously available features, including multi-language support, in-app demo mode, device monitor with audible trigger alarms, and device program functions.

B&K Precision Adds Its First Handheld DSO Offering for Industrial Applications

Isolated Models with 1,000 V CAT II / 600 V CAT III Rated Inputs and Floating Measurement Capabilities, Built-in DMM, and Trend Plot Recorder Functions

YORBA LINDA, CA, November 20, 2013 -- B&K Precision today announced its new 2510 Series handheld digital storage oscilloscopes (DSO). Four models make up this new line of dual-channel oscilloscopes that includes 60 MHz and 100 MHz bandwidth models in non-isolated and isolated designs. Suitable for general electronics, models 2511 and 2512 provide non-isolated 300 V CAT II rated inputs. For industrial applications, models 2515 and 2516 provide two fully isolated 1,000 V CAT II / 600 V CAT III rated inputs. With 1 GSa/s sampling rates and 2 Mpts of waveform memory, these portable scopes provide floating measurement capabilities combined with built-in digital multimeter (DMM) and recorder functions at an economical price point.

In applications such as power electronics, engineers and technicians often require measurements that are not referenced to ground. Floating traditional line-powered oscilloscopes poses a safety risk and may cause measurement errors due to signal common being connected to the scope chassis, thus making battery-powered scopes the instrument of choice for these applications. Models 2515 and 2516 feature fully isolated channels for safe and accurate floating measurements.

All models in the 2510 Series offer 5.7” color displays, a built-in 6000-count DMM with dedicated terminals for current measurement, and scope/meter trend plot functions for logging measurement values over time. Capture and record up to two voltage or time parameters from the scope, or graph any one of the DMM’s measurements, which include: DC/AC voltage and current, resistance, capacitance, diode, and continuity test.

Additional features include digital filtering with adjustable limits, 32 automatic measurements, FFT and math functions, multi-language interface, and USB connectivity for remote PC control. A side panel USB host port is available for saving setups, waveform data, screenshots, or CSV files to a USB flash drive.

Weighing approximately 3.4 lbs. with the included rechargeable Li-ion battery, each model can provide up to four hours of continuous battery operation and come with two high bandwidth safety-rated passive probes plus a pair of DMM test leads. Models 2515 and 2516 include a hard plastic carry case accessory for safe transport on the road.

B&K Precision Grows XLN System Power Supply Line

Offers Higher Voltage 150 V, 300 V, and 600 V Configurations

YORBA LINDA, CA, Sep 12, 2013 -- B&K Precision today announced three new base models to its XLN Series of programmable DC power supplies. Expanding on the success of the XLN Series, the new models, XLN15010, XLN30052, and XLN60026 offer an even greater range in output voltage - up to 150V, 300 V, and 600 V, respectively. These DC power supplies can deliver a maximum of 1560 W in a compact 1U rackmountable form factor, making them particularly suitable for high voltage and ATE system integration applications.

Like previous models in the series, these new power supplies offer a front panel interface with full numeric keypad and rotary knob, features not typically found in other system power supplies available on the market. On the rear is the standard USB interface for remote control and RS485 interface for master/slave mode communication in parallel configurations. A DB25 analog programming interface has been added for external analog voltage and current control with monitoring functions, while the GPIB and LAN (–GL) interface remains an available option.

Additionally, these power supplies include a list mode feature with PC software provided that allows users to easily execute programmed test sequences up to 150 steps, internal memory storage to quickly save/recall up to 10 different instrument settings, adjustable voltage and current slew rates, and remote sense terminal.

XLN Series models provide extensive protection features: overvoltage (OVP), overcurrent (OCP), overpower (OPP), and overtemperature (OTP) protection, along with constant voltage-to-constant current (CV-to-CC) and constant current-to-constant voltage (CC-to-CV) foldback protection modes. YORBA LINDA, CA, Aug 1, 2013 -- B&K Precision today announced the launch of its 4050 Series, a line of four dual channel function/arbitrary waveform generators. These new instruments can generate waveforms up to 50 MHz for use in education and applications requiring stable and precise sine, square, triangle, and pulse waveforms, with modulation and arbitrary waveform capabilities.

All models are dual-channel, providing a main output voltage that can be varied from 0 to 10 Vpp into 50 ohms and a secondary output that can be varied from 0 to 3 Vpp into 50 ohms. Their large 3.5” color LCD display, rotary control knob, and numeric keypad with dedicated waveform keys and output buttons make waveform adjustments quick and effortless.

Equipped with a 14-bit, 125 MSa/s, 16k point arbitrary waveform generator, the 4050 Series provides users 48 built-in arbitrary waveforms and the ability to create and load up to 10 custom 16 kpt waveforms using the included waveform editing software via standard USB interface on the rear. An optional USB-to-GPIB adapter is available for GPIB connectivity.

The 4050 Series offers a wide variety of modulation schemes for modulated signal applications: amplitude and frequency modulation (AM/FM), double sideband amplitude modulation (DSB-AM), amplitude and frequency shift keying (ASK/FSK), phase modulation (PM), and pulse width modulation (PWM).

Other standard features include linear and logarithmic sweep function, built-in counter, Sync output, trigger I/O terminal, and USB host port on the front panel to save and recall instrument settings and waveforms. Additionally, a standard external 10 MHz reference clock input is provided for synchronization of the instrument to another generator, a feature not typically found in generators at this price point.

B&K Precision Further Expands Function Generator Line

Replaces Previous Models with Full Numeric Keypad and Large Color Display at Lower Price

YORBA LINDA, CA, June 19, 2013 -- B&K Precision today announced the addition of three new DDS (direct digital synthesis) sweep function generator models: 4014B, 4040B, and 4045B. All models generate stable and precise sine, square, and triangle waveforms, and provide output voltages from 0 to 10 Vpp into 50 ohms or 20 Vpp into open circuit. The 4014B presents a new 12 MHz function generator with sweep and AM/FM modulation functions to B&K’s DDS generator line, while the 4040B and 4045B directly replace previous 20 MHz models 4040DDS and 4045. The 4045B adds a 12-bit, 50 MSa/s, 1k point arbitrary waveform capability. These new models are ideal for use in education and training, as well as other applications requiring low-cost sweep function generators with modulation or arbitrary waveform capabilities.

Designed with a dual technology architecture, the models combine traditional DDS technology with a low-jitter square wave generator. Compared to signals generated by typical low-cost DDS function and arbitrary waveform generators, this implementation significantly minimizes jitter and improves edge stability of square waves. Additionally, these instruments incorporate separate output amplitude and DC offset amplifiers, which allow users to set large DC offsets from -4.99 V to 4.99 V (into 50 ohms) with a small amplitude output signal as low as 10 mV.

Similar to the previously released 4007B and 4013B DDS function generators, the new models also offer key interface improvements compared to their predecessors with a large color LCD display and menu-driven front panel keypad. Convenient waveform and range selection buttons are provided to make adjustments quick and easy. The color display shows both waveform parameters and preview of the output waveform.

Other standard features include a rotary control knob, linear and logarithmic sweep function, AM/FM modulation, built-in counter, and a SCPI compatible USB (virtual COM) interface.
Backed by a standard 3-year warranty, the 4014B, 4040B, and 4045B have built-in overvoltage and short circuit protection on all inputs and outputs to prevent accidental damage to the instrument, which is particularly suitable for educational environments.

B&K Precision Expands 1U System Power Supply Offerings with Multi-Ranging Supply

The 9115 can deliver up to 1200 W in multiple combinations of voltage up to 80 V and current up to 60 A. With a high density, compact 1U form factor and standard 19" rack-mountable design, this DC power supply can replace multiple power supplies on a bench or in a rack, making it suitable for a variety of benchtop or ATE system applications.

Conventional power supplies with fixed output ratings often limit the range of voltage and current operation available to the user. The 9115’s multi-ranging capability automatically recalculates voltage and current limits for each setting and can provide wide voltage and current operating ranges without forfeiting high output power, thus saving valuable bench space by eliminating the need for large bulky power supplies or multiple units.

On the front panel, the 9115 features a high resolution, 1 mV/1 mA VFD display, independent voltage and current control knobs, cursors, and a numerical keypad for direct data entry. The instrument also provides internal memory storage to save and recall up to 100 different instrument settings.

For programming and remote control, the 9115 offers a plethora of features to the user: adjustable voltage rise and fall times, sequence (list mode) programming, master/slave mode for series or parallel connectivity, remote sense, a DB25 analog interface with control and monitoring functions, and standard USBTMC-compliant USB, RS-232, GPIB, and RS-485 interfaces supporting SCPI commands.

B&K Precision Introduces Modular DC Electronic Load for Multi-Channel DC Source Testing

Featuring Dynamic Loading Speeds Up to 25 kHz, Parallel Module Synchronization, Adjustable Slew Rates, and Constant Impedance Mode

YORBA LINDA, CA, April 19, 2013 -- B&K Precision today announced its new MDL Series; a modular programmable DC electronic load system. The MDL Series comprises six unique modules ranging in power from 200 W to 600 W. Any combination of these modules can be installed for multi-channel operation in the 4-slot MDL Series mainframe, which supports up to 2400 W and up to 4800 W with a mainframe extension connected. Suitable for use in industries such as automotive, solar, and electronics manufacturing, this high performance DC electronic load system is designed for characterizing a wide range of DC power sources, including multi-output AC/DC power supplies, batteries, fuel cells, and photovoltaic arrays.

All DC load modules in the MDL Series can operate in constant current (CC), constant voltage (CV), constant resistance (CR), constant power (CW), and constant impedance (CZ) mode, which uses DSP technology to simulate realistic non-linear loading behavior. Depending on the module, users can select from operating voltage and current ranges up to 500 V and 120 A. A 250 W dual-channel module supporting flexible power allocation up to 300 W is also offered. Load modules in the MDL Series mainframe can be synchronized and connected in parallel for increased current and power.

With its high resolution 16-bit measurement system, the MDL Series system supports many useful features such as adjustable current slew rates in CC mode, transient mode operation up to 25 kHz, and list mode programming for generating complex sequences of input changes. Up to 101 groups of settings parameters can also be saved for executing multiple test sequences in automatic production testing.

For remote PC control, the MDL Series mainframe offers standard GPIB, Ethernet, USB, and RS232 interfaces supporting USBTMC and SCPI communication protocols. The mainframe also offers a built-in 8-pin control terminal for external triggering and synchronous load On/Off functions. Each module includes an analog current control and monitoring terminal for external analog programming.

-- B&K Precision today expanded its digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) portfolio with the release of their new 2550 Series. This new series of scopes adds four 2-channel models (2552, 2554, 2556, 2558) and four 4-channel models (2553, 2555, 2557, 2559) ranging from 70 MHz to 300 MHz bandwidth with 2 GSa/s sampling rates and 24 kpts/Ch memory. These high performance digital oscilloscopes cover a wide range of applications in R&D, service and repair, and education at a cost-effective price point.

While maintaining a portable form factor, the 2550 Series introduces a significant increase in display size compared to typical 5.7" displays on economy scopes. The new models feature a widescreen 7" TFT color display that maximizes visibility of signals under test, a great benefit for long waveform captures or 4-channel acquisition.

All models in the 2550 Series offer powerful debugging tools such as digital filtering with adjustable limits, waveform recorder mode, pass/fail testing, advanced triggering capabilities, 32 automatic measurements, and a large internal storage for saving and recalling up to 20 different waveforms and 20 oscilloscope setups. The scopes can also perform five waveform math functions - add, subtract, multiply, divide, and FFT.

Each DSO comes standard with LAN and USB interfaces supporting SCPI and USBTMC protocols for remote PC control. The provided PC software allows all scope parameters to be controlled via a PC without the need for programming. At no additional cost, high bandwidth passive probes (one per channel) are also included with each unit. 200 and 300 MHz models add selectable 50-ohm input impedance.

Models 4007B and 4013B can generate sine and square waveforms from 0.1 Hz to 7 MHz and 0.1 Hz to 12 MHz respectively. Both models also output triangle/ramp waveforms from 0.1 Hz to 1 MHz and provide variable output voltages from 0 to 10 Vpp into 50 ohms or 20 Vpp into open circuit. These new models offer affordable solutions to educators, technicians, and hobbyists who need low-cost, entry-level sweep function generators without compromising on quality.

Notable improvements to the interface over previous models are bright, informative LCD displays and numerical keypad for simple entry of waveform parameters. Convenient waveform and range selection buttons are provided to make adjustments quick and simple. Users can also easily navigate through the intuitive LCD display with menu function keys.

Additionally, the instruments provide linear and logarithmic sweep functions, variable DC offset from -4.5 V to 4.5 V (into 50 ohms), and adjustable 20% to 80% duty cycle up to 1 MHz for square and triangle waveform output. A Sync output is accessible on the front panel for outputting TTL level pulses synchronized to the main output.

Backed by a standard 3-year warranty, models 4007B and 4013B have built-in overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), and short circuit protection on the main output to prevent accidental damage to the instrument.
