B&K Precision Extends its Power Supply Line with ATE Series

New XLN Series for ATE System Integrators and Benchtop Users

Image002 YORBA LINDA, CA, January 26, 2010 – B&K Precision’s new XLN series of DC Power Supplies provide up to 1440 watts of power in a compact 1U, full-rack case for rack mounting in an ATE environment, or for bench top use.  The XLN series contains four base models to choose from with various output voltage and current selections and optional GPIB/LAN interface.  All units include free application software for remote control capability without the need for computer programming.

For the ATE user, ease of system integration is important. These power supplies simplify the building and operation of custom test systems for a broad range of applications. Their compact size, and high power density with fast processing times below 50ms, make for easy integration into test systems, while front to rear airflow circumvents interference with other mounted devices.

Bench top users of the XLN series can interact with a full keypad and rotary encoder knob for easy interface, and precise voltage and current adjustments.  The additional list mode feature lets users create up to 150-step test sequences, which are executed from internal memory.

All four base models use standard USB and RS485 interfaces with SCPI protocol.  Optional GPIB and LAN interfaces are available as well to make the XLN series flexible for any test situation. This option includes a built-in web server, which allows users to control basic power supply settings through a web browser.  Another noteworthy feature is the master and slave mode, which greatly simplifies configuration and control of several power supplies connected in series and parallel while using the RS485 interface for synchronization.

Clean power, low ripple, and low noise qualify these new B&K Precision power supplies for the most rigorous test situations; i.e., product design and development, product QC and burn-in testing, production, or any application requiring large amounts of clean power.  Each XLN unit includes a comprehensive protection design for safe interfacing with any unit under test.

These new versatile DC power supplies have a wide range AC input voltages for use in any region. All of the XLN series Power Supplies ship with a full two-year warranty and are priced at $2275 for the base models and $2495 for the GL versions with GPIB/LAN interfaces added.  With this new series, B&K Precision now offers a full range of quality power supplies from basic to system power supplies for demanding ATE applications without the expense of higher priced brands.

B&K Precision Continues to Grow Generator Line

Two More Sophisticated Arbitrary Waveform / Function Generators

YORBA LINDA, CA, August 28, 2009 – B&K Precision does it again. 4079_introAnnouncing the introduction of two new 50 MHz Arbitrary Waveform / Function Generators, Models 4076 and 4079. These new 50 MHz models are quickly escalating the B&K product line following two 25 MHz generators launched earlier this year. This strong product line clearly indicates B&K’s commitment to be the preferred supplier of affordable yet full-performance DDS Function and Arbitrary Waveform Generators.

Electronic designs today usually contain complex signals, requiring a variety of test waveforms. These two new models allow the user to design the required signal by using the generator’s function or arbitrary waveform section. With 14 bit amplitude resolution, 125 MS/s sampling rate and up to 4 million points of length, waveforms can be output in continuous, triggered, gated or burst modes. Meaning these two models can produce nearly any possible waveform. Added to this is their capability to sum an external signal to the generated signal for even more waveform characteristics.

Supplying stable and accurate outputs, model 4076 is a single channel unit and 4079 is a dual channel model. Both provide a wide frequency range from 1 mHz up to 50 MHz for sine and square waveforms and up to 62.5 MHz in arbitrary mode. Offering a straightforward front panel keypad and control knob, their operation proves to be very user-friendly.  A large, graphical digital display shows the detailed output waveform image.

Extensive features such as programmable markers, internal or external AM, FM and FSK modulation, along with versatile sweep capabilities and variable edge pulse generation, make these generators suitable for a wide range of applications including electronic design, sensor simulation, and functional test or generation of I/Q modulated signals. Both models include arbitrary waveform editing software, plus flexible GPIB or RS232 interface capability.

Available for immediate delivery, the single channel generator model 4076 is priced at $2125 and the 4079 dual channel version at $3250. Both models come with an outstanding three year warranty. Visit www.bkprecision.com for detailed specifications, product videos and application notes on these products.

New Application Note Provides Applications and Examples for the Practical Use of DC Electronic Loads

Yorba Linda, CA  April, 2009 - Many of today’s electronic applications are concerned with the efficient use of energy. For this reason, it is important to have a test instrument such as a DC Electronic Load that can accurately characterize power sources used to provide electricity for devices such as electrical vehicles, computer power supplies, 3G cellular phones, and even consumer standard household batteries.

B&K Precision’s newly-released application note “DC Electronic Load Applications and Examples” provides a general introduction to a DC load’s usage.  Some standard performance tests for power supplies are described in detail. Additional information on other practical DC load applications and setup descriptions are provided. Also included are several methods for the performance verification of a DC load itself.

All applications and software examples in this application note use the B&K DC load models 8500 and 8510 for illustration; however the applications can be simulated in the same fashion with other brands of DC loads with the exception of all the software examples.  The software is specific to B&K series DC loads, but the ideas can be used with other DC load brands.

Availability
B&K Precision’s DC Electronic Load application note can be downloaded from the company’s web site www.bkprecision.com, by entering 8500 in the search box, then clicking on Documentation. The 17-page document is available at no cost.
